As an international stage creator, Sylviane de Reyes conceives and develops original dance and musical theatre projects at the intersection of movement, costume, scenography and visual dramaturgy.
Franco-Spanish, born in Paris and raised in Málaga, Sylviane de Reyes is an Argentine tango dancer and stage creator. Her artistic training and practice have developed primarily between London and Buenos Aires, where she has progressively built a practice at the intersection of dance and stage creation.
She discovered Argentine tango at the age of 20, beginning a physical and artistic research that she continues to develop today. After studying Translation and Interpreting at the University of Málaga, she moved to London, where she lived for four years. There, she obtained an MA in Theatre Design from Wimbledon College of Arts (UAL), specialising in scenography and costume design for theatre. She also gains professional experience in costume and backstage work at several London theatres, including the Royal Albert Hall, on the occasion of a production of The Nutcracker by the Birmingham Royal Ballet, as well as at The Tower Theatre Company and The Questors Theatre.
She subsequently completed a Graduate Certificate in Dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, developing her practice in classical and contemporary dance. She also worked as a tango performer and cultural mediator on Connecting Stars, a project by Constella Music, designed for care homes across the United Kingdom.
She later lived for two years in Buenos Aires, where she deepened her training in Argentine tango, both social and stage tango. She joined the Betsabet Flores choreographic group, with whom she performed at events including the Tango Envenado festival, where the group was awarded third place.
She is currently developing GYPSY TANGO©, a stage work combining Argentine tango, flamenco, musical theatre and visual dramaturgy, exploring memory, identity and cultural exchange between Spain and Latin America.
